SACEUR hosts North Atlantic Council and Military Committee Sea Day in Rota, Spain
13 Jul 09

ROTA, Spain — Admiral James Stavridis, Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), today hosted NATO’s Secretary General, the Permanent Representatives of the North Atlantic Council (NAC), and the Chairman and members of the Military Committee (MC) at the bi-annual NAC-MC Sea Day held in the Spanish port city of Rota. NATO’s Standing Maritime Group One (SNMG1) vessels were in port to provide the platforms from which the participants observed naval manoeuvres.
“The sea connects us all, and forms the Trans-Atlantic bridge at the heart of this Alliance. It is therefore a particular pleasure to host this event, which enables
the maritime element of Allied Command Operations (ACO) to demonstrate the capabilities and competencies it brings to enhancing security, stability and prosperity,” said Admiral Stavridis. “And it is fitting that the ships and sailors of NATO are part of this day, having just returned from their successful counter piracy mission, Operation Allied Protector, off the Horn of Africa.”
